We start by reading the script along to a movie like Black Panther or Spiderman Into The Spider-Verse. From there the kids start writing their own scripts, learning all about plot, character development, and how to find their own creative voice.

The next step is putting gear in the hands of these amazing kids with expert volunteers from the creative community in Nashville. Photographers, Videographers, and Sound Engineers use their creative powers for good, teaching the kids camera and video skills that help them tell their unique stories.

Right now over 60% of Nashville's kids are NOT reading at grade level. This is a literacy crisis that we can solve together with this fun, engaging, and creative approach. After all, who doesn’t want to make a movie and learn to fly a drone?

Does it work? We partnered with Vanderbilt to get real data.

More Enjoyment

We all do more of what we love. It’s human nature. Our goal is to help kids fall in love with reading. We saw a statistically significant increase in enjoyment of reading for kids who participated in Script to Screen.

More Confidence

But we also know that anxiety and lack of confidence can really affect how children feel about reading. Script to Screen participants showed a statistically significant increase in their reading confidence.

More Value

Finally we measured if kids felt that reading is a valuable skill. Connecting the dots between movies and the written word through our script reading and writing workshops saw a statistically significant increase in their understanding of the value of reading.
